Today we are releasing Game Capture HD 2.1 Beta 84 for Mac OS X, which adds support for the recently launched HD60 S. System requirements:. Currently, a quad core Intel i5 or better is needed to reliably achieve 1080p60 capturing.
By quad core we mean a real quad core i5, not the dual-core-with-hyperthreading i5. This also holds true for i7's. MacBook Airs can have i7's in them, but they're ultra low power dual core i7's. The only recent computers that fall into the real-quad-core range are the 15' MacBook Pros, iMacs and Mac Pros. Mac OS X 10.11 'El Capitan' Why are the system requirements so high?. Some of you may be wondering why the Mac specs are so high at this time.
The biggest hurdle here is Mac OS X itself. It's no secret that Mac OS X limits the access that developers have to the hardware, and without this direct access, less optimization can be done. On Windows we have access to Intel's QuickSync for encoding and it works wonderfully. On Mac OS X QuickSync can be used as well, but only with certain parameters, and we have very little control over what it does or even when it activates as this is controlled by Mac OS X. We have been and continue to work hard on optimization, and our developers will be at WWDC next week speaking directly to Apple engineers to understand what more can be done. I can't capture 1080p at a reliable 60fps, what can I do?. The first thing to try is setting the resolution to 720p so that you can keep capturing at 60fps.
If that does not work, uncheck 'Allow 60fps' in the quality settings. Frame rate has a much bigger performance impact than resolution, which means 1080p30 will likely work better than 720p60. Download link:.

Update - Hi everyone, We understand your frustration when it comes to lack of features in Game Capture on Mac compared to Game Capture on Windows. On the Mac side, we've been very busy adding HD60 S support, which is anything but trivial. Since WWDC, we've been working with Apple to add additional hardware encoding to make HD60 S compatible with more Macs. Beyond that, we're 100% committed to bringing features like Curated Scenes, Browser Sources and additional audio options to our Mac software as well, and we look forward to sharing more of our progress on that front soon.
Sorry that we can't give a more concrete timeline, but rest assured there is a lot of activity behind the scenes. So by this time next year we can expect Windows to be on Version 4 and upscaling to 4k and we'll finally be getting Version 3? If you won't, or can't, give us the features then please release a driver for OBS so that we can have them.
I love my Elgato hardware but the software just doesn't cut it for my needs. I honestly prefer the simplicity of Game Capture to OBS but without Green Screen keying or overlay support it's unusable. I know you want people using you software but at this point you're losing hardware sales because your product is basically unusable for mac users. An OBS driver could at least get people to stick around while you figure out the software details.
